Wellbeing - Food & Nutrition
Aim to drink about 2 litres of water a day. Fill a 500ml bottle and once it is empty fill it again so you drink 4 bottles throughout the day. Water helps your body metabolise fat more efficiently, prevents dehydration, bloating and water retention. It will improve your circulation and complexion as well as helping you feel more energetic.
Never be tempted to skip breakfast, if you do your body can reduce its metabolism by up to 40%. When you eat breakfast you kick start your system, become more alert and start burning calories not storing them. Numerous studies have proved that people who eat breakfast have a better chance of loosing weight. If you skip a meal you will make yourself so hungry that you will then eat the wrong things.
A good breakfast should contain carbohydrate, protein and fruit or vegetable. Cereal, Yoghurt or milk and fruit or carrots.
Eat little and often to keep your metabolism ticking over, roughly every 3 hours. Snack on fruit and just a few nuts or vegetables and a spoonful of humus.
Eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables each and every day, ideally a variety of colours to provide a wide mix of vitamins and minerals. Fruit with cereal and a glass of fresh juice for breakfast already gets 2 portions, fruit and vegetable snacks mid morning and afternoon, then vegetables or salad with dinner will easily keep you at 5 a day. Keep note throughout the day and if you are missing out by the evening meal try to catch up with raw vegetables and dips to start with, salad and vegetables with your meal and fruit for pudding.
