Jemma Kidd’s Top 10 Tips for a Face Focused Look:

  1. Moisturising hydrates the skin and provides a smooth base for applying your foundation. If you apply your foundation onto un-moisturised skin, the foundation will be drawn into the skin and sink into any open pores and fine lines, making them more noticeable.
  2. Use a primer after your moisturiser – this provides a base for make-up to adhere to and also means you use less foundation so that it won’t clog or feel heavy. If you want to brighten your complexion, use a skin illuminator crème either alone or mixed in with your foundation to add a soft sheen to the skin.
  3. Apply a light layer of translucent powder on top of your foundation to remove shine and give skin a soft, velvety finish. Make sure that the powder is very sheer and free from talc and apply with a small brush using circular motions and gently buff onto the skin. Pay particular attention to those areas that create shine, such as the tip of the nose and the forehead.
  4. If you have a clear complexion, don't mask it with heavy foundation. Use a tinted foundation, or a concealer where needed, to give a fresh faced look.
  5. For long-lasting colour, use a cream shadow as a wash and go over it in powder – this adds depth and also sets the colour. Use a dense brush to push the colour into the skin and then dust or blend away excess.
  6. Line your eyes with a liquid or cream liner and then go over with a very fine line of eyeshadow in the same colour. This will strengthen the colour and set the liner, making it last longer.
  7. The same theory applies to your eyebrows. Use an eyebrow pencil to fill in the brow where needed and to sharpen and define the edges. Then use an eyebrow shadow on top to soften the look and make it last. Try Shavata Double-Ended pencil in Dusk/Dawn and Brow Perfector powder.
  8. Many women tend to opt for heavier eye make-up for an evening out. Often stray flecks of eye shadow and mascara can fall onto the face and result in smudged foundation. An easy way to avoid this is to do your eye make-up before the rest of your face. That way if anything smudges you can simply wipe off without ruining your base.
  9. Use a little eye make-up remover on a cotton bud and wave through lashes after applying a fresh coat of mascara to “de-clump” or use before your evening touch-up to “freshen” stale lashes.
  10. If you find that your concealer tends to sit in fine lines around the eye area, mix it with an eye cream to make it more hydrating.
