Grooming - Skin Care
Your skin is constantly replenishing itself but the rate at which this happens slows down as we age. It is exposed to dirt and grime on a daily basis, dry, dull and dehydrated skin makes you appear older. This is why it is important to look after your skin.
A simple daily skin care routine is a must and should include cleanse, tone and moisturise, other treatments can be added 2 or 3 times a week or as necessary.
A trip to a salon for a facial is a real treat so either spoil yourself, or drop hints at birthdays, mother’s day or Christmas!!
Exposure to sun is very ageing so always use a moisturiser with a high SPF factor during long periods of exposure even during the winter but not for short periods of exposure or you will not develop your own natural protective melanin.
As we age the renewal of skin cells slows so exfoliation is really important to allow fresh cells to appear. Unfortunately the skin also thins as we age so you must be gentle with your exfoliation or you will get broken capillaries resulting in redness. It is also important to stimulate the circulation with gentle massage or tapping movements with the fingers all over the face.
New skin cells are translucent and reflect the light, giving that youthful glow, old cells pack together and become dull, opaque and ageing so aim to exfoliate a couple of times a week once you are over 30 years.
The skin around the eyes is often the first to show the signs of ageing, you must be very gentle with your eye care. Always remove your make up each night with a gentle eye make up remover and apply specific eye creams once you are over the age of 30 years.
